Kamala Harris is known for being a politician and a former lawyer. Since 2017, she has been the junior U.S. Senator for California.
She is a member of the Democratic party, and on August 11, 2020, it was announced that she would be Joe Biden’s choice for Vice President in the 2020 presidential election. The choice makes her the first person of color and from South Asia to be picked as the running mate of a major party’s presidential candidate.
Kamala was born in Oakland, California, and went to Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of Law to get her degrees. She started her work in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and then moved to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and then the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office.
She was named San Francisco’s 27th district attorney in 2003 and served until 2011. She was also chosen as California’s Attorney General in 2010 and again in 2014. When she was chosen in 2016, she was California’s third woman to serve as a Senator.
